Analytical Chemist - Biotoxins Battelle is a world leader in science and technology research. Atlanta Analytical Services (AAS) is a part of the Analytical and Environmental Chemistry Product Line and provides laboratory support to the CDC/NCEH/DLS inclusive of collecting and analyzing various biological samples obtained for the purpose of assessing exposure to or the impact of being exposed to environmental chemicals as well as the detection of certain biomarkers indicative of exposure to chemicals associated with acts of chemical terrorism. AAS is seeking an Analytical Chemist to work full time in the Chemical Terrorism Analytical Response Laboratory within the Emergency Response Air Toxicants Branch. Salary will be determined based on education and experience. The selected applicant will have to obtain and maintain a CDC security clearance. Candidate must be a US citizen. The selected candidate will work on-site at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Chamblee Campus. Primary job responsibilities will include: Providing analytical support through the development of assays for the quantification of biotoxins in clinical matrices such as urine, serum and water. CDC requires a PhD analytical chemist with specialized training in the assay of clinical samples for small molecule metabolites and serum adducts. This individual will assist with method development projects within the emergency response group. Duties will include: Setting up methods on LC/MS/MS instrumentation Tuning LC/MS/MS instrumentation Extraction and recovery experiments of various toxins in urine, serum, and water; as well as other validation steps. Participation in emergency response exercises as needed. Maintain analytical equipment Assist with the development of associated regulatory documentation (CLIA) on an as needed basis. Work within CDC/OHS guidelines. Candidate resumes must demonstrate the following minimum requirements in order to be forwarded for consideration: PhD in chemistry or a related field. At least 4 years of experience with mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, and electrospray ionization. A working knowledge of protenomics to assist in the interpretation of protein digests and qualitative identification of serum adducts. Experience with sample preparation techniques including immuno-affinity magnetic bead separations, solid phase extractions, and 96-well formatted extractions. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Additional selection criteria will include: Experience with chemical analysis of organic toxicants from human clinical samples for small molecules and serum adducts using MS technology; a thorough understanding of the operation and maintenance of mass spectrometers; a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team; and being a motivated and independent self-starter.
