Required Skills: Typically requires a MA/MS with 8+ years experience, BA/BS with 10+ years experience in Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Health & Safety Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience. Extensive experience in Cal-OSHA Title "Construction Safety Orders" and safety engineering. Strong background with emphasis on construction safety. A strong working knowledge of Federal, State and local regulatory compliance requirements, Cal-OSHA and OSHA. Extensive working knowledge for: Asbestos and lead abatement, fall protection, scaffolds, hazard identification, incident investigation/reporting facility-safety related maintenance and construction, and confined space entry. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, and team-building skills. Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, be capable for extensive, daily walking, and be able to flex work shifts and days to accommodate major construction activities. Demonstrated ability to work across section and division boundaries in a team environment and conduct construction training. Must have effective decision making capabilities, ability to work effectively with a variety of customers, and be an organized self-starter. MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Desired Skills: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or (Certified Industrial Hygienist) CIH and/or Professional Engineer (PE) Certifications. Expert knowledge in: Regulatory Compliance, Construction Safety Orders, General Industry Safety Orders, with emphasis in pressure vessels and systems. Significant team leadership experience. Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and follow through on substantial technical programs. Ability, desire, and flexibility to take on assignments outside area of expertise. Strong Computer Skills, MS Office Suite and Project Manager.

 

 

Will: Be a senior member of the Construction Safety program with specific responsibilities including aspects of construction safety, code interpretation and applications review and approval of facility construction modification drawings, and specifications, identification and abatement of hazards, incident investigations and reporting, and provide construction safety training. Responsible for making important decisions and completing major assignments and projects. Will address efforts for construction safety and work closely with other senior team members within JPL as related to construction safety.  Will attend pre-construction meetings and highlight/identify potential key hazards for JPL. Review contractor site safety plans, IIPP and related compliance programs, will cross-train in other areas of safety, and all other duties that may be assigned. Will report to the Construction Safety Supervisor in the Occupational Safety Program Office.
