7746 - Energy Engineer - Facilities Maintenance & Operations Section
Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a division of the California Institute of Technology, is a lead research and development center of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Laboratory has a wide-ranging charter for solar system exploration, Earth observation, astrophysical research, and technology development, and employs approximately 5,000 scientists, engineers, and support personnel. JPL also manages and operates NASA’s Deep Space Network, a worldwide system of antennas that communicate with spacecraft and conduct radar and radio astronomy studies. The Laboratory is located on a 176-acre site in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in Pasadena, California.
Required Skills: Â Â Typically requires a BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other relevant discipline and 5-10 yrs of solid experience with Energy Mgmt Best Practices, 5+ yrs. of experience in the Energy Mgmt field. Â Â Certified Energy Mgr (CEM) designation is required. Â Â Minimum 5 yrs. experience with Direct Digitial Control (DDC) controls hardware and electrical systems installation and troubleshooting. Â Â Certified in Staefa Control Systems. Â Â In depth experience and knowledge of HVAC systems, bldg. automation systems and energy mgmt. Â Â Must have good documentation skills, be a self starter and able to work with project teams in a dynamic and fast paced technical environment.Desired Skills: Â Â 5+ years of energy mgmt experience with a BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering with certification in Staefa Control Systems. Â Â Troubleshooting capabilities with DDC controls and HVAC System troubleshooting with emphasis in energy mgmt operations. Â Â Background in large Energy Services Performance Contracts. Firm understanding of renewable energy sources and their applications in a campus-like environment. Â Â Familiarity with Federal Energy Reporting Requirements; knowledge of Southern California utility companies; knowledge of energy conservation programs and related incentives; experience integrating metering systems including water, gas and electric to energy mgmt systems. Â Â Experience in analyzing/forecasting cost and consumption trends for energy. Â Â Experience in reviewing and making recommendations to facilities design standards for DDC controls, energy conservation products and instrumentation.
Will: Â Â Be a member of the Facilities Maintenance & Operations Section(M&O)functioning as an Energy Engineer supporting the JPL Energy Manager and the JPL Energy conservation program including energy audits, retro-commissioning and field DDC/energy related operations issues including field troubleshooting. Â Â Work independently and in collaboration with a team, will be responsible for JPL computerized energy mgmt system and all related tasks such as system migration and upgrade. Â Â Will act as the contract technical engineer for the energy mgmt system controls. Â Â Will support all Facilities projects from an energy conservation and EMS controls perspective. Participates on teams with other Centers to review, update, develop facilities procuedures, guidelines, standards and practices related to energy mgmt and energy conservation. Â Â Work to identify and assist in implmentation of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) projects. Â Â Work within the M&O team to identify energy conservation projects designed to meet JPL's energy conservation goals.
