Project Director

The Project Director’s role is to plan, organize and manage the project portfolio for Wilen Media.  This position leads multiple project managers and direct project execution.  This includes developing, maintaining and supporting an entire formal Project Management Life Cycle across all projects, for all work products.  The Project Director will be responsible for overall successful portfolio execution, consistency, risk management and reporting.

 Responsibilities

 

Key Functions

· Leads the delivery of multiple projects and is accountable to executive management and the Project Sponsors for their outcome (Scope, Time, Cost, Customer Satisfaction, Risk & Quality).

· Sets the direction of project work streams with regard to process, deliverables and timelines.

· Integrates multiple functional areas of technology and the business in the planning, execution, control and implementation of the project portfolio and managing of critical dependencies.  This includes technical/business leadership where needed.

· Facilitates company wide project prioritization process including: weighting and scoring of company drivers and business benefit quantification and ranking.

· Responsible for the aggregation of the individual project estimates to create comprehensive company portfolio view.

· Development and responsibility for integrated communications plan, reporting and metric plan for the entire portfolio.

· Creation and maintenance of the overall portfolio schedule to determine and report on the health status of the portfolio.

· Actively participates in recovery plans for projects encountering health issues, leads continuous process improvement to ensure issues don’t recur.

· Responsible for staffing projects with qualified project managers and deploying consistent project management principals and techniques through other project managers, or directly when needed, on all projects within the portfolio.

· Coaches and mentors project managers and project coordinators to improve their capability and performance.

· Active participant in working with vendors to determine clear statements of work for execution involving: project specific support, software configuration and/or specialized services.  Inclusive of score card process to determine ongoing best sourcing vendor selections.

· Tailors the use and level of specific project management techniques to each assignment as appropriate (Requirements management, Risk Management, Change Management).

· Organizes and leads the project teams and projects through all PMLC phases.

· Clear and effective communication of items requiring escalation and expedites resolution.

· Needs to be expert and instrumental in building seamless collaborative project teams across business units and IT.

Position Requirements

 

Formal Education & Certification

· Four-year College degree required in related discipline.

· Certifications: PMP required; PgMP & Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.

· Training & experience with leading a PMLC & SDLC required; CMMi a plus.

 

Knowledge & Experience

· 10-20 years general business experience.

· 6-12 years Project Management experience, augmented by line management experience.

· Subject matter expertise in IT service and application delivery.

· Experience with Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft Project, Milestones Professional, Primavera, Mercury Project and Portfolio Management, Provision and Visio a plus.

· Ability to facilitate meetings of peers, enable discussion that leads towards resolution and communicate results to management.

· Ability to present to customers and project sponsors and play a supporting role on presentations to higher levels of management.

· Ability to make sound and logical judgments.

· Comfortable with decision-making power within the projects and within the program, to the extent delegated by the project sponsor and management.

· Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.

· Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

· Highly self-motivated and directed.
