Media Relations Associate
Consumers Union is an expert, independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to work for a fair, just, and safe marketplace for all consumers and to empower consumers to protect themselves.
Responsibilities include fielding incoming media requests, drafting media advisories and press releases, making pitch calls to TV, print and radio outlets and providing media support to the Communications Manager and DC lobbyists. This person will also represent Consumers Union at a variety of events on Capital Hill and among DC coalitions and organizations.
Qualifications include a Bachelors degree and a minimum of two years experience in public relations, political or journalism fields and a working knowledge of a variety of public policy issues. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to juggle many tasks and work under deadline pressure are essential. Media relations experience on Capital Hill, with an Executive Branch or trade association a plus
