Job Description
GENERAL OVERVIEW
As Channel Manager for this Internet company, you will be responsible for presenting content on its network to create the best breed of experience for users as well as to support key business objectives. The position requires daily collaboration with team members in the development of programming strategies. You will ensure programming strategies are executed in an effective and timely manner and interpret data to draw conclusions with regard to implication on business goals and user experience. The Channel Manager must continually cultivate a broad knowledge of Health and Wellness areas, including medical news and health trends, and work to develop concepts for related feature content as well as identify areas for additional content development. The ability to write compelling promotional copy is essential. Candidate should also possess project management skills and good analytical and interpersonal skills. Must be able to gain a keen understanding of the user base and be able to utilize that understanding toward the goal of successful programming.
OBJECTIVE
The Channel Manager's primary objective is to strategically prioritize and program the team’s channels/portals to best satisfy both the user and sponsor across the site's network. You will create and maintain monthly programming plans that can be utilized across the network, helping to convert users to members and drive page views. To meet these objectives, you will work closely with the Business Manager to identify strategic drivers that affect the programming plan, the Senior Producer to coordinate enhancements for the channels/portals, and the Producer to develop a production schedule.
PRIMARY CHALLENGES / OPPORTUNITIES
As Channel Manager, your challenge is to balance 'Church and State' issues while programming to satisfy both the user and sponsor. In addition, to program successfully you must know what is on the site at any given moment to take advantage of cross-programming opportunities. You must follow the metrics of each area to program according to what is successful and improve what is not. You must continually develop and apply in-depth knowledge of your assigned disease/condition and wellness areas/topics.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Strategically program team channels/portals (including newsletters) to satisfy both the user and sponsor
as measured by specific metrics goals. This means that each channel must be prioritized and goals
designated that make sense from a business standpoint, helping convert users to members and drive
page views. Work with the newsletter production team and marketing on the strategic leveraging of
relevant newsletters, including suggesting programming and editing as necessary.
* Create and maintain a monthly programming schedule that includes all channels/portals that the team is
responsible for, and coordinate with Relationship Management and Editorial to help create editorial
calendar and strategic initiatives.
* Work in collaboration with the Producer to ensure that all team specific channels are published with
100% accuracy as set forth in the programming guide.
* Work with the Business Manager to ensure that from a programming perspective, the business
objectives are being met.
* Awareness of and utilization of company assets (both those on and off the site) to address programming
and cross-programming needs at the lowest operating cost possible.
* Stay abreast of cultural trends and medical advances to shape programming plans.
* Identify potential new sources of content; work with the Business Manager to analyze for viability and
obtain new assets at low/no cost.

* A deep understanding and appreciation of balancing the needs of users and sponsors/advertisers (Church/State issues).
* Ability to monitor trends and analyze how users are influenced to take a certain path.
* Basic understanding of Internet issues, strategies and technologies including HTML, java script, streaming audio/video, interactive applications, web interface/usability, design, navigation, wireframes, advertising conventions, product requirements and workflow documents.
* Basic understanding of metrics (Internet & company-specific metrics) to include the ability to read metrics and apply a basic understanding to company's core business, company's Partners businesses, and various ROI models of each.
* Basic understanding of the technical aspects of Internet advertising (ad size, page width, column width, etc.).
* Skilled in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; experience with Microsoft Project a plus.
