Statutory Financial Reporting Manager

A large group of life insurance companies in North Dallas is seeking to fill a newly created Financial Reporting Manager role.  This group of life insurance companies is owned by a private investment group with diversified holdings in the financial services sector as well as real estate ownership and management. The group operates four publicly traded real estate entities with over $3 Billion in assets under management. Job Description is as follows - • Prepare and analyze Statutory financial information, explain variances, research and resolve accounting issues and problems, prepare/review and file monthly, quarterly and annual statements. Provide first level review of financial reports prepared for management and regulatory bodies. Manage accounting staff. Position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of information reported in financial statements and the timeliness of those financial statements Essential Functions: 1. Review Statutory and financial statements under strict deadlines to include annually the statutory Management Discussion and Analysis and Audited Financial Statements. 2. Research Statutory accounting literature for unique issues, forming recommendations/conclusions to resolution. 3. Manage small accounting staff. 4. key role in implementation and maintenance of various accounting systems 5. Coordinate and review monthly analysis and distribute to management; compile answers to questions following management review. 6. Provide explanations to management to assist in interpreting financial results. 7. Investigate and respond to questions from management, auditors, examiners, regulatory agencies. 8. Assist auditors and examiners in their audit of financial statements and records. 9. Evaluate and challenge current processes, identify opportunities for improvements and develop and implement solutions using a high level of initiative. 10. Prepare and distribute monthly closing schedule. Job Requirements 1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA designation or eligible for examination, 2. Minimum 5 years experience in accounting/financial analysis in the life insurance industry, working in a sophisticated financial system environment. 3. Strong understanding of statutory accounting principles and prior experience with statutory financial statement filings. Current on GAAP knowledge a plus. Independent judgment and discretion are used in applying Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP). 4. Minimum 3 years experience in management or supervision of two or more staff. 5. Excellent personal computer skills, including familiarity with Excel, Windows, automated GL packages, annual statement software, etc. Good Access skills a plus. 6. Strong analytical ability and understanding of insurance accounting regulations; logical accounting thought process and the ability to recognize trends, deviations and potential errors. 7. May assist management with contact/communication with other company personnel, external auditors, external rating agencies and regulatory analysts and examiners. 8. Ability to maximize job efficiency by prioritizing, organizing, multi-tasking, and working independently.
