State & Local Tax Manager

Currently we are seeking a State Tax Manager for a North American company Headquarters in Secaucus, NJ.

 

Complete responsibility for state and local income tax compliance.

 

Manage all state and local income tax audits.

 

Assist the VP of Tax with state tax lobbying initiatives and develop strategic approaches to legislative issues

 

Conduct research relating to state income taxes, advise on state tax law changes and analyze the impact to the company.

 

Supervise the professional staff to maximize the use of Corptax for state income tax preparation.

 

Review FAS 109 state deferred tax timing differences and valuation reserves.

 

Review current procedures and develop improvements consistent with SOX initiatives and requirements.

 

Develop state tax planning strategies designed to minimize current and future costs.

 

Scope and Competency Requirements 

MANAGEMENT:

 

This position will indirectly manage three people from the shared professional tax staff.

 

PROBLEM-SOLVING (complexity and research, analysis, and creativity required):

 

Ability to conduct tax research using various publications and online research tools.

 

KNOW HOW (education/experience & other knowledge required):

 

BA in Accounting

 

Ten to fifteen years experience in all aspects of state & local income taxes.

 

CPA or advanced degree a plus but not required.

 

Experienced in automating processes and data gathering (particularly Corptax).

 

Strong organization and multi-tasking skills.

 

COMMUNICATIONS (key communications contacts and level of persuasion required):

 

Strong written and oral skills required.

 

Ability to interact and be persuasive with external tax auditors.
