Staff Accountant with Government Contracting

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Staff Accountant with a strong background in a government contracting environment. SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director for Accounting and Administration, the Staff Accountant performs the full range of accounting tasks (A/P, A/R, GL) in support of government contracts, as well as specific corporate accounting tasks. The staff accountant will prepare monthly invoices, contract reports and bank reconciliations.  They will also be responsible for maintenance of the G/L in accordance with GAAP and in compliance with the FAR.  The staff accountant will assist as directed with financial statement preparation, audit and tax work papers.  QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Accounting.  CPA a plus. Two-five years’ of recent accounting experience.  Experience in a government contracting environment or public accounting experience a plus. Strong oral and written communication skills required.  Computer literacy required to include proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) in a Windows XP environment.  Ability to handle multiple projects within prescribed deadlines.  Demonstrated knowledge of automated accounting systems (e.g. QuickBooks, Deltek etc.) desired.  Strong attention to detail required. RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides support for monthly and quarterly activities for designated contracts including: Monthly invoices Monthly utilization analysis Monthly contract financial deliverables Variance reporting for contracts Monthly and quarterly financial statements Monthly bank reconciliations Monthly work papers that reconcile account balances for significant balance sheet and income statement amounts Monthly reconciliation of A/R and A/P sub-ledger Monthly journal entries Assist with preparation of annual financial statements. Maintains job cost accounting system. Administers employee travel expense reporting; identifies audit issues; escalates issues to Director for Accounting and Administration for further research as needed.
