Sr. Staff Accountant

Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS), a scientifically advanced

school for chiropractic and acupuncture/oriental medicine, is seeking a Sr. Accountant to work with in our Business Office.

 

The successful candidate for this position is expected to perform the following duties:

 

· coordinates the University’s policies in the field of financial affairs to include but not be limited to budgeting, finances, investments and reporting.

 

· Keeps the CFO informed of any developments within their area of responsibilities, which may require action, or be pertinent to the performance of their duties, through appropriate written reports and through such other means as requested by the CFO.

 

· Provides support to the CFO in financial reporting.

 

· Create, institute and maintain policies directly related to the Business Office.

 

· Serve on operational committees with department heads, staff and faculty to review needs, create and/or update policies impacting the institution’s internal structure.

 

· Serve on the Budget Review Committee and assist Chair with compiling the budget for next budget year from initial stages to final form.

 

· Interact with outside agencies such as banks, investment managers, taxing authorities and payroll service as needed.

 

· Manage the annual financial audit process from initiation to final report with outside CPA firm.

 

· Work with CFO on the preparation of annual 990 and 990T Corporation Tax Returns.

 

· Oversee the processing of and filing of 1099 and 1098 reporting.

 

· Generate annual tuition and fee schedules for new and continuing students.

 

· Oversee collection of student accounts.

 

· Review purchase orders and AP checks to insure proper coding of gl accounts.

 

· Process Year End Closing

 

· Create new General Ledger accounts and maintain  the Chart of Accounts

Job Specifications

 Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience5 years of progressively responsible experince in Accounting and budgeting.Extensive knowledge and use of various software packages including spreadsheets and
word processing.Able to work collaboratively with budget managers.Maintain confidentiality of University business records.Excellent communication and organizational skills and ability to work independently and meet deadlines consistently.
