Senior SalesTax Accountant/ Analyst

Aon Consulting has been entrusted to conduct a candidate search for one of our esteemed client companies, United Rentals, for their Temple Terrace (Tampa) FL corporate office. They currently have multiple openings including a Senior Sales & Use Tax Analyst.   Our client is the  world's largest equipment rental company in the world, with $4.2 billion in revenue and nearly 700 rental locations throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

 

The Senior Sales & Use Tax Analyst will monitor, analyze, track, and report on sales and use tax for all US operations. Work with business units to ensure timely, complete, and accurate information is obtained and provided to support tax compliance requirements.

Essential Duties:
· Review and execute funding requests from third party service provider and reconcile payments to the company’s general ledger accounts.

· Reconcile the transactional tax balance sheet accounts and income statement accounts on a monthly basis to ensure automated journal entries for accruals and payments are timely, accurate, and complete.

· Preparation of monthly and quarterly sales tax filings

· Review monthly and quarterly sales tax filings for accuracy and completeness

· Track and investigate monthly revenue activity to identify unregistered states where an operating entity’s sales and rental volume may require registration.

· Assist with special projects as required.

· Assist Sales Tax Supervisor with tax research and the compilation of supporting documentation for tax audits:

o  Collect and review requested information, i.e., invoices, tax payments and samplings

o  Develop and analyze the weighted average and ratio for each branch with relation to the assessment.

 

· Address sales and use tax questions/issues from the operating branches and tax jurisdictions
1) Review and respond to correspondence from state taxing authorities.
2) Monitor internal controls to ensure that each control is working properly and is  adequately documented for SOX and IA purposes

 

Requirements:

· Must have a BS degree in accounting or business. CPA or CMI preferred.

· 3-5 years experience in accounting and/ or sales & use tax.

· Big-4 and/or  multi-jurisdictional sales tax experience a plus.

· Strong accounting skills

· Experience with accounting and tax systems

· Ability to excel in a fast paced environment

· Well organized with strong analytical ability

· Experience in leasing/rental industry helpful

· Must have strong Microsoft office skills, especially with Excel and Access

· Must have a sense of urgency and ability to work independently

· Must possess strong writing and communication skills.
