Senior Financial Analyst Summary

We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Financial Analyst reporting to the Senior Director, Assistant Controller in Finance. This is a non-exempt position and is located in Boston, MA.  The general requirements for the position are as follows:

Senior Financial Analyst Focus
Responsible for the hedging accounting, accounting analysis, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and reporting for the company’s commercial activities sourced from Boston.

Primary Senior Financial Analyst ResponsibilitiesMonitor daily trading activity in the various hedge books and determine appropriate accounting treatment. Monitor hedging activity against the forecasted generation to ensure compliance with FAS 133. Support accounting activities in Boston, including analysis and accounting treatment of trading and origination activities.Work with Asset Management group to ensure the accounting follows the hedging strategy. Work with other departments to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley documentation is accurate and up to date. Work with Irvine Financial Reporting and other Boston departments to ensure accurate and timely completion of the quarterly reporting package.

 


Essential Senior Financial Analyst Skills & Characteristics

Education/TrainingBachelor's Degree in Finance or AccountingMaster’s/Advance Degree in MBA preferred

Work Experience and Skills
5 – 8 years of financial analysis experience with an independent power producer, utility or with the energy related practice area of an accounting or consulting firm

Technical SkillsQuantitative and analytical skillsVerbal and written communication skillsDetail-oriented and ability to meet deadlinesAbility to provide analysis that is clear, concise and thorough Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel within the company and function as a team playerProblem solving skills and a commitment to follow-up on all open action itemAbility to use of Excel spreadsheetsProficient with Lotus Notes, Microsoft Office Suite, and Internet ExplorerThorough understanding of general accounting principles, financial statement analysisAn understanding of energy industry or Derivative Accounting
