Senior Accountant - Retail

Our client is a $110 Million dollar retail company located in East Hanover, New Jersey.  They are looking for a Senior Accountant to report to the Corporate Accounting Manager. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

 

Accounting and Finance:

· Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures; Oversight over corporate and divisional financial information including analysis and review, account reconciliations, rollforwards, review of expenses and general ledger transactional details, and variance accounting and reporting against budgets and prior year.  Ensure validity, accuracy and completeness of monthly financial information.  Identify areas of potential exposure.

· Prepares and distributes monthly financial reports and supporting documentation to department and divisional managers and prepares summary level reporting for assessing department performance, including monthly management reports and variation analytics. 

· Data analysis.

· Performs special analysis, prepares reports and makes recommendations on financial performance, as needed.

· Collects and analyzes data in support of operating and strategic initiatives and prepares trend and variance analyses to assist with forecasting expenses; Identify cost initiatives to bring over budget forecasts back in line or identify savings.

· Analyzes corporate capital plans, tracks capital expenditures in compliance with GAAP and assist in development of capital process and forms as well as assist in the developing capital project business cases as needed. 

 

External Reporting:Assist with financial and tax audits, as needed, including preparing NJ sales tax, NY sales tax and Canadian GST tax.Prepare bank reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis Prepare and analyze royalty reporting on a monthly and quarterly basisAssist with preparing tax returns and corporate reporting requirementsAssist with quarterly licensing reports; analyzing, preparing and correcting discrepancies Internal controls:  · Participates in the development of internal control and processes and implementing Best Practices.  Recommend improvements and efficiencies, establish goals and objectives, and improve infrastructure within the department and across divisions and departments.  · Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with Company personnel, departments, and management. 

 

 

Required Skills & Qualities4+ years accounting/finance experience; CPA a plus, but not required;  Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or FinanceHigh potential person with initiative; must have ability to multi-task; detail oriented and organized. Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from a manager to accomplish objectives.Strong analytical abilities and financial analysis skills; Sound business process knowledge and ability to apply business/financial principles.Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are required along with the ability to influence, and demonstrate confidence in communications with senior level management.  Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results.Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, with advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills.  Experience with Great Plains is a plus.  The candidate should also have sound business process knowledge and demonstrated abilities in applying business/financial principles.
