Senior Accountant - Global Firm, Growth Opportunity (JL)

The Mergis Group  Senior Accountant (JL) Our client, a multibillion dollar, international, publicly traded corporation is in need of a Senior Accountant. The successful individual will assist in the valuation & accounting process of the Derivatives Team, to assist in the review of accounting assessments of contracts in the Technical Accounting Group and other ad hoc accounting projects. RESPONSIBILITIES Calculate and prepare journal entries related to FAS 133 & 157 as part of the accounting process performed by the Derivatives Team. Prepare reconciliations of the balance sheet and income statement accounts for derivative transactions and balances. Assist in the preparation of FAS 133 & 157 disclosures for external reporting purposes. Interact with Treasury and Risk Management to obtain data necessary for preparation of journal entries. Interact with local & international businesses to obtain data related to reconciling items and the contract review process performed by Technical Accounting. Provide support to the managers in Technical Accounting in the Corporate Contract Review process by reading contracts, researching accounting standards & guidance. Includes accounting standards such as FAS 13, FAS 133, FAS 157, FIN 45, and FIN 46. Perform queries on contracts database as related to derivatives & other accounting treatment.REQUIREMENTS Able to apply technical accounting concepts with a solid understanding of U.S. GAAP. Strong documentation skills – attention to detail. Able to prepare work papers in a neat and organized manner and perform self checks on work performed in order to ensure completeness and accuracy. Proficient in Microsoft Excel. Working knowledge of derivatives accounting under FAS133 and FAS 157 preferred. Proficient in calculation, analysis and interpretation of data & results with a high level of precision.
