Revenue Recognition Analyst

SUMMARY JOB DESCRIPTIONSumTotal Systems provides business performance improving products, services and solutions that help customers increase revenues, decrease expenses and reduce operational cycle time. We provide an integrated suite of business performance management applications that help customers deliver, manage and measure learning to solve specific business problems.   This position will report to the Revenue Manager. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES  Â§  Review sales and cost of sales contracts and supporting documentation to provide interpretation and guidance on revenue and cost recognition § Responsible for revenue recognition, deferred revenue and customer billings in designated areas of the business§ Prepare technical revenue write-ups based on the review of contract interpretation§ Prepare monthly and quarterly reconciliations and financial analysis in support of the business§ Assist in process improvement initiatives related to Softrax, our system-based accounting system § Responsible for monthly revenue and order management close processes§ Evaluate reporting requirements and provide support for development of new reports§ Provide support for Sarbanes-Oxley and other departmental requirements as needed § Interact with external auditors during quarter and year end audits§  Collaborate with finance, sales, legal department and business units to ensure all sources of revenue are properly reviewed for accounting purposes and processed on a timely basisESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION § Three recent years of software revenue recognition experience gained in software industry or public accounting§ Experience with multi-arrangement software contracts that include licenses, royalty, services and maintenance revenue categories§  Familiarity with revenue recognition rules with specific reference to SOP 97-2, SAB 104 and EITF 00-21§ Experience with managing billings and accounts receivable§ Strong Excel skills and attention to detail§ Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills in dealing with internal and external customers§ Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work in a structured environment§ Experience with system-based accounting systems is required; knowledge of Softrax and Great Plains is a plus. § BS Accounting/Finance required; CPA desiredSumTotal Systems is an EOE and strongly supports diversity in the workplace.
