Outstanding company seeks Accounting Manager

Purpose Manage the day-to-day operations of the financial accounting department. Responsibilities -  Provide overall leadership to the financial accounting department ensuring that the following accounting processes and reconciliations are performed properly and timely: - Accounting procedures including P&L variance analysis, balance sheet account reconciliations, p-card administration/audit, and various analyses as requested for various New York Times Company business units. - Company-wide payroll and benefit account reconciliations. - Sales and use tax returns. - Lead the Finance department in ensuring Sarbanes Oxley and GAAP compliance.  - Plan and manage the transition of additional business unit responsibilities to the Finance department. - Effectively manage a team of six: responsibilities to include recruiting, developing, setting priorities and providing clear direction to ensure staff meets business goals. - Set priorities and provide direction to accounting staff. - Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities and procedures - Build and maintain a diverse staff of competent employees.  Monitor employee performance and provide training as necessary. - Provide an exceptional level of customer service and support to all business units and other internal and external contacts and respond in a timely manner to customer service feedback items identified by Operating Unit Management. Key Result Areas (Outputs & Deliverables) - Ensure accounting processes and reconciliations are performed timely and are accurate - Ensure transition of new work is managed effectively and meets our customer?s needs - Ensure department is providing exceptional level of customer service and support Customer/Business Partners - Business unit controllers, accounting staff and other personnel - Managers and staff in the Corporate Controller?s department - Managers and staff in the Corporate Tax department - Managers and staff in the Corporate Treasury department - SSC managers and staff - Internal and External Auditors Qualifications Technical Knowledge/Skills - Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel and Powerpoint required - Experience with PeopleSoft Financials & Hyperion Enterprise desirable. Education or Certifications - Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management required - CPA Certification preferred Work Experience - Five years accounting experience required - 3 years management experience preferred Other Requirements: - Ability to effectively research, assess and resolve complex accounting issues; and the ability to develop and implement appropriate procedures - Ability to adjust to changing priorities, circumstances, and personal interaction styles - Strong attention to detail essential - Strong understanding of general accounting concepts and procedures - Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks - Good verbal and written communication skills, necessary to articulate ideas and prepare analyses; coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills, necessary to build and maintain relationships and interact well across all levels - Effective delegation skills, ability to coordinate work activities and ability to provide constructive feedback to subordinates and team members to support continuous improvement required - Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a constantly changing environment - Ability to convert complex data into meaningful information so actionable plans can be developed.
