Financial Systems Manager

Unum is a company of people serving people.  As one of the world’s leading employee benefits providers and a Fortune 500 company, Unum helps protect more than 25 million working people and their families in the event of illness or injury.Headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Unum has significant U.S. operations in Portland, Maine, Worcester, Massachusetts and Glendale, California, with 35 field offices nationwide. Financial Systems Manager This is a leadership position that oversees a team of project managers specializing in financial systems implementations.  The position is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic finance system strategies to enhance the company’s management of financial data, production of internal and external reporting via business intelligence technology, and strengthening of internal control.  This position is responsible for delivering results through facilitation of project resources that report directly and indirectly to the position.   This position is accountable for coordinating the implementation of processes, procedures, and training that will improve productivity, cycle time, service standards, and reduce unit costs to support UNUM growth strategies.  Principal Duties and Responsibilities Manages the day to day activities of the staff.  Responsible for the hiring, performance and compensation decisions affecting assigned staff. Acts as an expert consultant providing financial systems and project management support to business areas regarding conformance to corporate policies and procedures, technical inquiries, planning & forecasting process, and SOX controls. Develop and direct implementation of initiatives to improve productivity, cycle and service standards.  This includes soliciting input from department staff at all levels and coordinating system requests. Partner with IT to prioritize and execute project plans to support the finance area Provide project analysis support including cost benefit analysis Take leadership role in performing the necessary research and analysis required to solve problems, correct problems or implement enhancements in a manual or automated system, workflow procedure or process.  Includes representing department and project teams. Develop action plans that support successful implementation of initiative in a timely manner. Provide mentoring, direction and training to Business Analysts and other Project Managers. Present information to all constituencies including senior management, IT personnel and team members.
