Director of Accounting (Public Company) 150-160k + 10% bonus

Job Description: This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.  The company is looking for a solid hands-on accountant with Big 4 experience (CPA required) to act as Controller and lead the accounting team as the company rapidly expands through both organic growth and acquisitions.   Responsibilities: • Manage all activities of the accounting and finance functions for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including monthly consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules and analysis for internal and external purposes including SEC filings. • Responsible for various other functional financial responsibilities, including tax compliance, and also provide guidance on various technical accounting, consolidation and reporting issues.• Develop, analyze, and interpret accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization. • Manage daily cash flow, line of credit, billing, A/R, A/P, collections, payroll and fixed assets.• Develop and implement scalable infrastructure for handling a large volume of jobs on a percentage of completion basis.• Oversee project accounting for construction, review percentage completion schedules, improve cost controls and cost accounting systems. • Handle the due diligence, pro formas, accounting and back office integration for acquisitions.• Right-size the accounting team for maximum effectiveness.• Direct preparation of budgets, reviews budget proposals, and prepare necessary supporting documentation and justification.• Participate in managing the treasury function and banking relationships including monthly interest and borrowing base computations and quarterly covenant calculations.• Develop and recommend policies, procedures and internal controls to meet company objectives and improve operations as well as adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley. • Handle all annual audit and tax planning as well as compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes.• Perform analyses and participate in a wide variety of special projects, as requested. • Build positive relationships with customers, vendors and operations staff. Experience/Requirements: • Action-oriented track record with proven and verifiable experience (telecom construction and services industry definite plus but not an absolute requirement) • Demonstrated ability to operate in an extremely high-paced, high-demand business, with the ability to “manage upwardâ€� important. • Must be a CPA (active NJ license) with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, Master's level education a plus. • Must have a minimum 5 years public accounting within Big 4.• Must have a minimum of 5 years of recent experience with a public company (within the last 2 years) and a minimum of 10 years of overall construction accounting experience.• Must have intimate knowledge of percentage of completion accounting.• Must have experience with SOX 404 implementation and maintenance. • An operating knowledge of Timberline Accounting systems is a strong plus.• Must be a team player and demonstrate the ability to work closely with peers.• Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others. • Demonstrated ability to think ahead and plan over a multiple year time frame. • Ability to analyze and resolve business problems at both the strategic and functional level. Compensation Package: • Attractive base salary/bonus/stock option plan commensurate with experience. • Medical, Dental, 401(k) benefit plan. • Local candidates strongly preferred. This position has 2 direct reports and 12 accountants under the two direct reports, more of a controller role.
