Director, Finance & Accounting
The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles and proud recipient of Time Magazine's College of the Year 2000. Auxiliary Services is the largest business unit on USC’s campus and provides a number of key services to students, faculty, staff and visitors. The business unit is comprised of the Hospitality, Housing, Bookstore, Transportation, Radisson Hotel and three administrative units, Finance and Accounting, Human Resources and Central IT. The Director of Finance and Accounting provides leadership and direction to the Finance and Accounting team, maintains responsibility for fiscal integrity of all financial reporting and operations and approves major expenditures and budget adjustments. The Director works closely with the Auxiliary Services business unit directors and unit controllers to create and manage fiscally responsible budgets which meet the strategic needs of the business units and adhere to USC procedures and controls. In addition, this position oversees monthly financial meetings in coordination with unit Controllers. The Director of Finance & Accounting establishes and maintains working relationships with the University Office of Budget and Planning, all Auxiliary Services business unit Directors and other key University offices and outside vendors. Responsibilities include: Develop strategic plans and objectives for the Finance & Accounting team Develop and manage fiscally responsible budgets to support the business units’ strategic goals Direct, design and implement policies and procedures which result in increased performance, are properly integrated with the business units, comply with federal and state regulatory requirements and align with University policy Identify, track, measure and analyze data to highlight problems, prevent loss, contain costs and direct the development of process improvement Develop and manage pro forma projections of financials, including headcount, operational and capital expenditures and revenue modeling in collaboration with all Auxiliary Services units and Controllers. Assists unit directors in the creation of performance based measurements to evaluate new business ventures for USC and external opportunities existing in higher education Oversees all audits which include but are not limited to; cash, tax, and external audits on internal controls.Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have extensive experience in all aspects of accounting and financial projections and management. Proven ability to use multiple financial tools, problem solve and provide leadership to a team are required. Qualified candidates will have excellent presentation skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, be exceptionally organized and have ability to navigate in a highly complex organization.
