Corporate Credit Analyst

II.  PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

The corporate credit analyst will work with and support the credit team in providing an unbiased, well researched proprietary corporate credit risk assess on a wide range of company types using any and all manner of public and private data sources.  Position reports directly to the VP-Credit, meets twice a week with the Investment Committee and has direct access to all senior members of the firm.  Members of the credit team are closely integrated with Investments and Asset Management and have direct influence on deal selection, pricing and structuring both on the front end of a transaction with Investments (and sometimes as a direct principal when Credit is responsible for the relationship) and in support of Asset Management when transactions undergo modification.



Education Level –

·         Required to have an undergraduate college degree in economics, finance and/or accounting

·         Preference for CFA candidates/charterholders

·         Preference for individuals with an accounting designation

 

 

Experience -

·         2-3 years of fundamental credit analysis experience in a financial institution, preferably at a major commercial bank or leveraged lending group, dealing with companies varying in size and across a broad range of industries

Functional/Technical Skills -

·         Strong understanding of financial statements – candidate should have a strong understanding of the relationships between the three financial statements and have some familiarity with assessing relevant financial ratios and industry specific metrics, financial covenants, and financial projections.

·         Strong understanding of fundamental credit analysis – candidate should be resourceful in performing due diligence/research and exhibit critical thinking and an ability to draw conclusions from large amounts of data.

·         Strong communication skills – candidate will be expected to interact directly with client management as part of due diligence and should be comfortable presenting his/her credit analysis in a public forum which includes senior executives of the firm

·         High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (particularly in Excel), Bloomberg, bond pricing, use of internet and other electronic media to quickly gather, synthesize and present data in a conclusive, focused manner

·         Strong financial modeling skills – candidate should be able to (a) build a customized financial model from the ground up and (b) take a completed model and understand driving assumptions.

·         Comfortable in an unstructured, entrepreneurial working environment

·         High degree of personal integrity and intellectual curiosity
