Associate University Auditor, Information Technology
Reporting to the Chief University Auditor, the Associate University Auditor, Information Technology position exists to create and develop an information systems audit program for Brown University. In this capacity, the auditor needs to become familiar with the mission of the University, participate in a continual risk assessment and maintain a current inventory of information systems audit universe. The auditor is expected to assess, evaluate and make recommendations to management regarding: the adequacy of the internal controls inherent in the University’s information systems; and, the effectiveness of the associated risk management. In addition, the individual will need to be familiar with our computing environment (mainframe, client server, PC); be aware of the threats to our data security (fraud and abuse, error and loss, natural or man-made disasters); and, be informed about the risks associated with the information superhighway (on-line databases, intranet, internet, e-commerce, computing cloud, etc.).
The auditor is expected to: develop an audit plan that will include reviews of system development and deployment, operating systems, telecommunications, applications software, data and program security, data quality, program changes, business continuity, disaster recovery, and e-commerce; assess the extent to which automated information processing systems produce reliable and accurate information and determine if such information is in conformity with the University's requirements and any applicable statutory provisions; and, review and evaluate the development, maintenance and operation of components of automated systems and their interfaces with the non-automated areas of the University's operations.
The auditor is expected to keep current on emerging information systems, technologies, or vulnerabilities that pose risks to Brown’s information assets; participate in an advisory capacity on University teams and committee involved with regulatory, compliance, and information technology issues; collaborate and work closely with the Chief Information Security Officer on security reviews; and train and supervise assigned staff.
The Associate University Auditor, Information Technology position requires an in depth knowledge of the theories and principles of information system auditing, a substantial knowledge of management controls and a broad knowledge of accounting and general administration. A thorough understanding of hardware, software, computer logic, computer operations, and systems design and analysis is essential. The ability to apply information technology concepts and techniques skillfully on assignments, and the ability to interact effectively either independently or in a team setting with all levels of management and staff is also important.
Qualifications:
BS in Business Administration with concentration in Information Systems, Accounting, Management or Finance, or BS in Computer Science with significant studies in business related courses; or equivalent experience; Seven to ten years progressively responsible professional experience in Information Systems and business auditing in client server and mainframe environment, with strong knowledge of relational databases;Working knowledge of CICS, UNIX, LINUX, IDM, Windows, ACL, etc.;Familiarity with firewall, IDS, and IDP technologies;Experience in Higher Education or non-profit environment preferred;Proven ability to work effectively on multiple projects at the same time and learn complex technical conceptsExcellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with strong analytical ability;High professional standards with the ability to handle confidential information and work with a diverse population;Certification as CISA required. CIA, CPA, or MBA helpful.
