Position Summary

The Department of Geosciences is seeking an Assistant Finance Manager to provide support for all pre- and post- award functions and activities related to the various project grants in the Department. This position will report to directly to the Department Manager of Geosciences on a part time basis. The Assistant Finance Manager will be expected to:

Provide backup and assist the Department Manager and Finance/Grants Manager.

Monitor spending on awards; ensuring adherence and compliance to all agency regulations and policies.

Assist faculty with annual and final technical reports, coordinating financial reports with Sponsored Research Office, updating budgets and/or rebudgeting in COEUS database as needed.

Assist faculty with forecasting and spending by collecting data from multiple sources.

Assist Finance/Grants Manager in developing sponsored research procedures manual.

Approves all requisitions and purchase orders related to sponsored research accounts.

Assist Finance/Grants Manager with posting and maintenance of sponsored research website postings.

Reviews all travel vouchers and invoices billable to sponsored research accounts.



This is a part-time position between 50%-75% duty time. The finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Operations Management or related field and 3-5 years of relevant work experience. (Extensive work experience may be substituted for educational requirement).

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

Strong computer skills

Experience with research proposal submission and administration of research funding.

Experience with budget development and financial analysis and reporting, accounting procedures and reconciliations.

Must be flexible to adapt to changes in workload.

Ability to work independently and simultaneously on multiple projects, meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality in a fast-paced teamwork environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of OMB regulations and federal compliance.

Knowledge of grant administration software

Knowledge of federal agency and grants.gov guidelines.

Prior work experience in higher education.
