Accountant - Portfolio Accounting
One of the largest multi-family investment managers of low- and moderate-income housing in the US is hiring an Accountant for downtown Boston office.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the accounting, quarterly and annual financial reporting and annual tax return schedules of public and corporate low-income housing tax credit funds, including funds that report to the SEC. Assists with any other accounting and reporting, planning and budgeting duties and analyses that may be required. Delivers fund financial information to corporate accounting through consolidation. The Staff Accountant will:
1. Prepares and reviews journal entries ensuring accuracy of classification and completeness.
2. Prepares quarterly and annual analyses of Fund general ledger accounts, trial balance, report preparation workpaper schedules and financial statements for established Funds. Responsible for the consistency, content and format of all financial statements.
3. Prepares public and corporate financial statements for established Funds including Form 10-QSB and Form 10-KSB documents, including Management’s Discussion and Analysis section (MD&A).
4. Participates in delivering Fund financial data to corporate consolidation accounting.
5. Annually prepares audit schedules and answers audit questions.
6. Assists the company’s Asset Managers in resolving audit issues that arise on Lower-Tier partnerships.
7. Participates in the resolution of investor accounting questions.
8. Prepares and reviews Fund tax trial balances and other tax return schedules.
9. Prepares and analyzes Reserve levels in each Fund.
10. Analyzes load structure in each Fund.
11. Performs audit and/or accounting projects across Funds to assist Team.
12. Contributes to the quality of the Team’s operations by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the daily/monthly/quarterly accounting cycles and processes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Bachelors degree in accounting/finance or related discipline required.2+ years related accounting experience required.Financial statement preparation experience required.Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-based, sales-oriented (i.e. fast-paced) environment—pitching in wherever needed to achieve Team objectives.Must be able to manage multiple priorities without sacrificing quality and accuracy and pay close attention to detail. Knowledge of accounting and financial reporting (including FASB pronouncements) as necessary.Familiarity with low income housing tax credits and tax reporting requirements helpful.Knowledge of SEC reporting requirements and regulations helpful.MS Excel spreadsheet skills required.Word processing skills preferred.Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills required.
